Achievement Badges recognise the wide range of skills, knowledge, and experiences that Pony Club members gain,  both on and off the horse.  They’re designed to make learning fun, flexible, and achievable for every age and ability. 

Whether you’re working towards your first badge or completing the full collection, each one helps build confidence, responsibility, and connection through the Pony Club values of Empathy, Participation, Self-Management, and Togetherness.

Pony Club Achievement Badges are a fun and rewarding way to showcase your riding and horse care skills. ​​​​​​​

What are Achievement Badges

Achievement Badges are small, skill-based awards that members can earn alongside rallies, camps, competitions, or at home.They complement the NZPCA Certificate Pathway and can be linked with other learning programmes such as:

  • Introduction to Equine Skills

  • Equine Skills Certificates (Junior & Senior)

Badges cover topics across riding, horse management, safety, teamwork, community, and personal growth, encouraging every member to explore their interests and set their own goals.

How to Earn Badges

  • Choose a badge that interests you
  • Complete the tasks or activities listed on the worksheet (see below)
  • Ask your coach or club to check off your progress
  • ​​​​​​​Celebrate your success and share your new badge​​​​​​​

For Clubs and Coaches

Achievement Badges are an easy way to add structure, variety, and motivation to your Pony Club programme.They can be used to:

  • Reinforce Certificate syllabus topics through fun, hands-on activities.

  • Build confidence at rallies, camps, and team days.

  • Recognise milestones like a member’s first camp, ribbon day, competition, or team selection.

  • Connect learning across Equine Skills and Certificate Pathways.

💡 Tip: Order badges ahead of time so you can present them as soon as members complete each activity.  It makes recognition moments even more special!

How It Works:

  • Purchased through the NZPCA E-Shop by Clubs and Branches to their members or at special NZPCA promotions
  • Branches and Clubs decide whether they fund badges or if riders purchase them when awarded
  • ​​​​​​​Once a member completes the necessary achievements, the Branch or Club will award them their badge

This ensures members are recognised quickly for their hard work and progress
