Eventing Champs, Hosted by Waitemata Rodney
The grounds of Papatoetoe Pony Club recently played host to the highly anticipated Eventing Championships, organised with precision by the dedicated team from Waitemata Rodney. Over three days of intense competition, riders and horses showcased their skills across various disciplines, demonstrating the true essence of equestrian excellence.
From the outset, it was evident that this event was meticulously organised, with every detail carefully thought out to ensure a seamless experience for participants and spectators alike.
The dressage phase kicked off the championship, showcasing well-ridden and well-scoring tests that set the tone for the rest of the event.
Cross Country Day brought a change in weather, but it did little to dampen the spirits of the competitors. The course, expertly designed and maintained, proved to be both challenging and exhilarating, with riders and horses rising to the occasion.
As the sun rose on Show Jumping Day, anticipation hung in the air. With only two horses failing to present for the trot-up, the stage was set for a thrilling finale. The pressure was palpable as riders rode the thoughtful courses.
In the end, it was the hosts, Waitemata Rodney, who emerged triumphant, clinching the coveted Teams Trophy. Sarah Bevege and her mount, ‘Ngatamahine J Airtime,’ once again secured the A1 overall title, a feat they had accomplished previously in 2022.
Charlotte van der Zwan and ‘Astek Gymsee’ distinguished themselves in the DC Individual Class, while Lucy Cadwallader and ‘Night N Day’ claimed victory in the MT Individual title.
Acknowledging the importance of horse management, Waikato was honoured with the Horse Management Award, highlighting their commitment to the welfare and care of their horses and teammates.
Beyond the competitive arena, the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship shone brightly, with the Skits Entertainment providing a platform for creativity and fun. After two tie-breakers, the joint winners, Bay of Plenty and Waitemata Rodney, were celebrated for their performances, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
