At New Zealand Pony Club Association (NZPCA), our culture is grounded in respect, responsibility, integrity, and care for our ponies and horses, for each other, and the wider equestrian community.
This page outlines the values that guide us, the behaviour we expect from our members, volunteers, coaches, and supporters, and the conduct standards that help keep our community safe, fair, and inclusive.
Pony Club is where it begins, not just for riding, but for learning to be part of something bigger.
These guidelines help ensure that all members experience Pony Club as a positive, respectful, and values-aligned environment.
Working together to develop friends, fun and adventure
We support every individual to develop and reach their goal
We grow through seeking opportunities in learning and educatio
We enjoy participating in the Pony Club journey by contributing wherever possible
At Pony Club we encourage our members to identify with their Branch/Club and community and allow them opportunities to work together to have fun, make friends, and try new activities.
This may look like:
Older riders helping younger riders.
Riders having input into rally and activity plans.
Trying new events – mounted games, quiz, treks and camps.
Social activities that promote friendship and fun.
If you would like to understand more about how to promote fun at your Pony Club, "SportNZ – Balance is Better" has excellent ideas, read the article here. At Pony Club, we give our attention to understanding how someone else feels and helps our members of their branch/club and community, even if we're not in the same situation. We see things from someone else's perspective.
Within pony club this enables all of us to have:
More engagement with other members
More positive relationships
Better communications skills
Higher level of achievement

Te Tutohinga Tākaro: Wairua Tōkeke o Aotearoa
You are the heart of Pony Club—your actions help make it a fun, safe, and respectful place for everyone.
We uphold fairness by:
Encouraging respectful behaviour through our Code of Conduct and Fair Play Charter
Providing clear expectations for how we treat each other and our horses
Promoting open communication and mutual respect among riders, families, volunteers, and officials
If a situation arises that doesn't align with our values or code, we have clear and fair processes in place to address it.
Anyone—riders, supporters, parents, coaches or officials—can raise a concern if they believe there’s been a breach of our Code of Conduct or Fair Play Charter.
These issues are addressed in a structured manner to ensure that everyone is heard and treated fairly. NZPCA encourages early resolution at club level wherever possible and offers national support for more serious matters.
(Please contact your Club, Area officials or CE Lizzie Turnbull if you need help using this process.)
