Fundraising Raffles – Make Sure You’re Playing by the Rules

Many clubs and community groups are turning back to raffles as a way to raise funds, particularly as sponsorship and traditional funding become harder to secure. While raffles can be a great initiative, it’s important that the correct legal process is followed.

The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) has clear rules around how raffles and sweepstakes must be run — including licensing requirements, prohibited prizes (such as alcohol), and how tickets are promoted and sold, especially online.
