Riders

NZ Horse & Pony Magazine Bulletin Board -
July 2008

The winter months are looming and in the past this used to be the time when our horses got a rest, but not any more. There seems to be a continuous programme of competitions throughout the country so riders can start preparing to qualify their competition horses or bring on the young ones. With petrol prices hiking up more and more and the price of entry and grounds fees, it is becoming uneconomical to go very far from home on a regular basis. One way to help beat the frustrations is to take a mate and share the costs. This way you can also give each other moral support and company on the road

This is a good time for pony club riders to get out the manuals and start preparing for the next season, or to organise some days where a group of riders and a coach can get together and go through their Horse Management. It is much more fun to do in a group these sessions can be marked off on your record cards which will be a great help when you go for your certificates.

Speaking of Record Cards. Riders should not be put forward for an exam until their records cards are filled in. Up to C+ level, record cards will usually be filled in at a rally situation by Pony Club Coaches, visiting coaches or specialists e.g. farrier, vet, saddler or on organised visits to such people. From B to H & A levels, members receiving tuition outside Pony Club rallies may have their record cards signed accordingly. The Club Chief / Branch Head Coach will decide who may sign the cards.

If you are deciding to leave your current branch and join up with another branch, you do not have to sit the certificates you have passed again, but a letter from the secretary from the branch you are leaving must be sent to the new club / branch confirming that the certificates have been passed and confirming your attendance record for the year. When leaving a club / branch it is manners to inform the club / branch that you are leaving and you should apply in writing to the club / branch sent to you wish to transfer. See the Club and Branch Rule 2:14, page 22 for more details.

International Mounted Games Exchange: Well done to Miss Stacey Managh of Taranaki for taking on the role of Coach for the games tour in Australia. The co-managers are: Mrs Barbara Harvey of Taranaki and Mrs Betty Larson from the Bay of Plenty. The exchange takes place in Western Australia from 11th to 27th July 2008 so if you are over there go and support the riders.

Cheers, from Marj Steiner
