Medicine Chest (Pony Club Manual No.1)
Most treatment by pony owners consists of first aid. This is why it is important to have a few simple things ready to use at once. By the time the shops open it may be too late.

Keep the following in a closed box or small suitcase:
- Two small packets of cotton wool in polythene bags. (A big packet soon becomes dirty, once opened.)
- Two 10 cm elastic bandages.
- A bottle each of Equidine, Savion, Triocel or similar remedies, witch hazel or methylated spirits.
- A puff pack of antibiotic powder, from your vet.
- A small packet each of epsom salts and common salt.
- Zinc ointment.
- A veterinary thermometer (to be used only by an adult).
- Filta-bac or Coppertone Shade (for pink-nosed ponies).
- If you live a long way from veterinary assistance, include colic drinks and eye ointment, from your vet.
- There are other things that you might need so please talk to your Pony Club Coach and your local vet for more advice.
