Horse Trials Teams Championships

The competition is a Teams Event, one team competing from each of the Association Areas, and comprising a maximum of six riders. There are two divisions; A1: Riders 17 years and under 21, maximum of 3 riders in each team. DC: Riders 16 years and under, maximum of 3 riders in each team. There is also competition for individual titles in each division.

The competition is in the form of a Horse Trial comprising three tests: Dressage, Cross-country, and Show-jumping, normally in this sequence.

The Aim

The Aim is to encourage a higher standard of riding throughout Pony Clubs in New Zealand and to stimulate interest in eventing as a sport, and as recreation, abiding by the principles of the NZPCA Fair Play Charter.

The competitions are held annually as determined by the Association:
2006 Northland, 2007 Wairarapa Wellington, 2008 Marlborough Nelson West Coast

Trophies and Awards competed for are:

The Area Team Championship Challenge Cup presented by Messrs G.M.S Kelly, R.S. Pilmer, and D.M. Lamb, is awarded to the overall winning Area Team. Sashes are also awarded to each of the six members of the first, second, third and fourth placed teams.

The New Zealand Pony Clubs Association Teams Dressage Trophy is presented to the team of six with the lowest dressage faults. Rosettes are also awarded to each of the six members of the winning team.

The A.1. Challenge Cup presented by Messrs John E. Butler Ltd., is awarded to the highest placed AI competitor. Rosettes are also awarded to the first, second, third, and fourth places.

The Dorothy Campbell Challenge Trophy presented by the New Zealand Pony Clubs Association, is awarded to the highest placed DC Competitor. Rosettes are also awarded to the first, second, third and fourth places.

The Knox-Thompson Perpetual Challenge Cup presented by Miss E. Knox-Thompson, is awarded to the highest placed A1 competitor in the dressage phase. A rosette is also awarded to the winner.

The Dickens Perpetual Challenge Cup presented by Miss S. Dickens, is awarded to the highest placed DC competitor in the dressage phase. A rosette is also awarded to the winner.

Horse and Pony Magazine Teams Horse Management Award for the Manager and Team judged to be the best in Horse Management throughout the Championships by the panel appointed annually by the Committee of Management. A rosette is awarded to each member of the team, the Manager, Coach and the reserves. Reserves must be present throughout the Championships to receive their rosette.

National Instructors Award sponsored by the National Instructors for the best overall A1 and DC teams. The team members each receive a rosette.
