South Wairarapa Pony Club
Early in 2010 Carterton and Martinborough branches were wound up & merged into a single Club, South Wairarapa Pony Club Inc.South Wairarapa Pony Club INC is a friendly, lively Club with about 65 members ranging from 5 to adult. We have two rally grounds – one in Carterton and one in Martinborough, with the possibility of a third being opened in Featherston. Members can attend rallies at either grounds.
Our Club is involved in a lot of activities from trekking to more serious training for the National Pony Club competitions. We also encourage every member to sit the certificates in riding and horse management that are an integral part of Pony Club.
While the main focus at our club is probably on having fun and learning good horsemanship skills, we also have a fairly serious competitive side as well. Our head Instructor encourages the members to set themselves a goal/s for the year and work towards attaining them. This can range from managing to get your young pony to stay in an arena for a dressage test, to competing at the NZPCA Eventing Champs.
Our Club competes in several competitions each year. These comprise:
Williams Gardenworld InterClub Dressage competition - every member off the lead rein who has basic arena craft skills is encouraged to compete.
North Island Teams Training – Riders must have proved that they are capable of riding a pre-training (80cm) or training (90 cm) cross country round safely.
North Island show jumping champs (Cambridge) – This competition is for riders who are competent in show jumping.
Prince Philip Games – This is open to every member who wishes to have a go. It’s lots of fun and you don’t need a flash pony!
